List of Volunteer Opportunities
Become one of our dedicated LD14 Democrats volunteers and make a difference. All the work in our district is done by volunteers. From our Board to our Precinct Committeepersons, no one is paid to do this work. We cannot advance Democratic values and elect Democrats to local, state and national offices without a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers. By volunteering and meeting other Democrats and Independents in the legislative district you realize the power of us working together with common cause. Join us and take action that makes a difference!
The following categories of Volunteering offer more explanation of how you can become involved.
Check Your Voting Registration and Find Voting Locations
It is very important to check your voting registration status to ensure that you are properly registered prior to elections. An excellent resource for this is the Maricopa County Elections

Donate to LD14 Democrats / Organize or Attend LD14 Democrats Fundraising Events
For LD14 Democrats to operate effectively we need to fundraise to cover expenses that we have as an organization. For example, we pay a monthly fee to rent the facility to host our Monthly Community Meetings and to pay for the necessary insurance coverage. In addition, every two-year election cycle LD14 Democrats fund the cost of voter guide/slate card printing and distribution (by USPS and/or text). These slate cards help the voters gain information about the slate of candidates supported by our LD14 Democrats.
If you have skills or the desire to help organize fundraising events in the community, we welcome your participation. You can also help in this regard by attending and encouraging others in your community to attend.
Write to or Call Elected Officials Serving LD14 Democrats to Voice Input on Issues
Write to or Call Elected Officials Serving LD14 Democrats to Voice Input on Issues
Citizen participation in communicating with our elected officials is incredibly important in a Democracy. These officials are elected to represent us at the local, state, and federal levels of government. Here are the officials representing you with a link to their contact information.
Participate on Committees for LD14 Democrats
There are numerous ways to participate with fellow Democrats on committees supporting the work of LD14 Democrats. Choose from one or more of the following: Planning, Communications/Messaging, Candidate Recruitment, Event Planning, Fundraising, Event Research and Tabling, Voter Registration, Phone/Text Banking, and Event Hosting.
Attend Local, Regional or State Rallies for Shared Advocacy of Policies
Voters are motivated to “Do Something” to impact our current and future well-being and to maintain the health of our Democracy. We will inform you of local, regional and state events being held for shared advocacy. These might be peaceful rallies locally or at the state capital formed around policy issues such as deportation and due process, budget cuts to the federal government, social security, Medicare or Medicaid. These also are avenues to thank local and state elected officials for their support of legislation aligned with our values.
Partner with Community Organizations to Achieve Desired Legislation
Various community organizations support citizen involvement ongoing beyond voting. In our area we have an active organization advocating on behalf of our public schools called Save Our Schools. Find out more about this non-profit organization by visiting their website at: https://sosarizona.org/
As a citizen, one of the mainstays of a Democracy is your ability to speak to your local and state elected officials. Civic Engagement Beyond Voting (CEBV) is an organization that seeks to connect you online or in-person to the legislature in our state. Visit their website and learn how to share your views regarding proposed legislation or other concerns you have as a citizen. Visit their website at: https://www.cebv.us/
Become a Precinct Committeeperson for LD14 Democrats
Being a PC Making a Difference The most important job I ever had was Precinct Captain – Harry S. Truman Do you like to write postcards to voters? Talk to others about issues and candidates? Enjoy getting to know your Democratic neighbors? Is canvassing for you? Do you want to help get Democrats elected up and down the ballot? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then being a Precinct Committee Person (PC) is for YOU! In fact, you’re probably already doing many of these activities. The role of a PC is at the core of political party activity; it’s the ground game and truly grassroots activism. As a PC you are a representative of the Arizona Democratic Party in your precinct, or neighborhood. Legislative District 14 has 44 precincts which are typically neighborhoods encompassing one or two square miles that have several thousand voters. From registering voters to meeting and talking with Democratic neighbors, your task is to be the voice of the Arizona Democratic Party. Elections are truly won or lost in precincts, and PCs are vital to ensuring strong Democratic support for Democratic candidates and issues. Any registered Democrat is eligible to be a PC in the precinct where they live. This is an open-ended volunteer role with no required time commitment for those who are ready to get (or already are) involved, are comfortable talking to their neighbors, and are willing to do the work. A few of the possible activities are (with guidance and support provided by the LD14 Democrats Board):
*Become familiar with your precinct. Organize with other PCs in your precinct to meet your Democratic neighbors, learn about the issues that affect them, and make sure their needs are addressed.
* Support the Democratic Party. Educate voters in your precinct about the Democratic Party, its nominees, and Democratic issues.
* Get out the vote. Make certain that all eligible Democratic voters in your precinct vote by sending postcards, making phone calls, or sending texts.
* Educate Voters. Find and maintain communication about where and how to vote during elections season.
* Stay Informed. Learn about current events and Democratic nominees through attending monthly LD14 Democrats meetings. (See our calendar for details.)
* Shape AZ Politics. Elected PCs can serve on the executive board of their Legislative District, vote at Maricopa County Democratic Party conventions, and represent the district at Arizona Democratic Party meetings. Given the critical role of a PC in our democratic process, it’s easy to see how the effectiveness of PCs directly affects the outcome of elections
If you’re interested in becoming part of the grassroots activities of LD14 Democrats as a Precinct Committee Person (PC), please contact Susan Smith, First Vice Chair of the LD14 Democrats Board, at Susan.smith@d14dems.org for more information or for an application.
Support Candidates for Office
Far in advance of elections, your involvement ongoing with LD14 Democrats attending monthly meetings and local and state events, as well as serving on committees familiarizes you with our organizing systems. This is an important background as we support candidates for office at the local, county, state and national levels. Support can be in the form of donating to a campaign, postcard and letter writing efforts, canvassing, becoming a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) volunteer, text or phone banking, or registering new voters. Supporting candidates is an “All Hands-on Deck” effort to influence positive outcomes for the Democrats.
